Last Friday will be recorded in the history books of Magiagi. It was when a fully-resourced library funded by the Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP), was launched in the presence of the community, friends and families of the project. The library is part of a project titled Magiagi: After School Reading and Homework Night Programme.
It aims to address the low literacy levels and assist in educational development of the children of Magiagi. Established in 2010, the programme received funding from CSSP in July 2011 and hopes to continue fundraising to establish a computer centre, to add on to the library and equipment already acquired.
Aside from funding from CSSP, the library also holds books donated by members of the Magiagi community, MESC, SUNGO and SPREP. The project is a community-based undertaking, owned and implemented by members of the EFKS Magiagi but serves all different denominations and levels of children within the village.
ADDRESSING THE PROBLEMS: Rev. T. Uesile (EFKS); Associate Min ister of Agriculture, Lenata’I Victor Tamapua; Rev Laau (Methodist) and Rev. Lafolafo.
